Cranesbills have beautiful white, blue or pink flowers at the ends of the stems from late spring to mid summer. The foliage turns a gorgeous dark red in the fall. This is a perennial geranium, that is left out over winter, mulching is not necessary. This is a relatively low maintenance perennial, and should only be pruned after flowering to avoid removing any of the current season’s flowers.
Cranesbill will grow to be about 18 inches tall at maturity. Its foliage tends to remain dense right to the ground. It grows at a medium rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for several years.
This perennial does best in full sun to partial shade. It is very adaptable to both dry and moist locations, and should do just fine under typical garden conditions. This plant can be propagated by division so they can be spread out throughout the landscape.
As a result these are beautiful plants and very low maintenance. It require water and the occasional fertilizing. You can plant the cranesbill in almost any location you wish, and almost ignore it and you will receive beautiful blossoms.
